Discussion Prompt # 14 super blog

The online blog was a good solution to quizzes. The blog allows for a student to make a profile and share his or hers interests with classmates in hopes to relate and make friends or at least create a social atmosphere. Quizzes can take up class time and therefore instructional time. Instead of these quizzes that teachers may not want to grade or students might not want to take. The blog gives instructors a way to let students go home and work on their topics in the comfort of their home. The blog also is a good way for the instructors to get feedback on how a student thinks by giving them a topic that lets them vent their opinions. Individuals also tend to be more open minded behind the comfort of their computer screen because they avoid visual confrontation with the person that is asking the question. My main points for the blog are as follows: the blog is a good way for students and teachers to have work done in the comfort of their home, it saves instructional time in class, it allows for some social interaction with the commenting system.
Going to class whether from a dorm or home can be stressful for some people because they have to walk or drive and use gas. The blog allows for work to be done outside the class room at a location in which the individual feels most comfortable. When a person is comfortable they are most likely more free minded and are able to create and form ideas easier then when they are in the class room pressured by peers or instructors because they are being demanded to perform or pressured by others to perform better because they do not want to feel inferior. Some students live off campus, one of my friends lives forty five minutes from the school. It would be most unpleasing if there was a due date on a day that wasn’t normal class schedule. If an instructor had a quiz and had it due on a non-class day at his or her office, the student would have to drive forty five minutes to turn it in. Instead the blog allows for a quiz grade assignment that could be completed anywhere at any time.
It saves instructional time in class. Instructors and their lectures are invaluable to students. Instead of having a thirty minute instructional period you can have a fifty minute instructional period. This can be accomplished by removing the quiz or assignment from in class to online so that students can work on their own time rather than the instructors so that they can get more lecture time. This lecture time can be used to clear any problems that the student may have, questions that the student may have or ideas that the student wants to share with the instructor. The online quiz can allow the instructor to also have work grading work on his or her time. Instructors are people with lives too and they also may or may not like to work. The blog allows for instructors to be with family or run errands. After these tasks are complete they can slip into comfortable clothes and grade the blog in bed or at their computer desk depending if they have a desktop or a laptop.
Students who go to class don’t have the same intentions as they did in high school. In high school students have an intention to learn and make friends since they don’t usually pay for their education. In college students pay for their education and go to class to learn and study to get their degree they are paying for. The blogs commenting feature allows students to interact with each other outside or inside the class room. The comments also allow for students to interact with each other, sharing ideas with each other and this allows for learning. Students may become friends when they comment on each other because they may argue and then find a solution hopefully ending in friendship. The comments also allow the instructor to know how his or her students think. This can help the instructor touch on topics that the entire class can relate too or avoid topics that the class may be offended by.
My opinion of the blog is very positive. I don't think there should be any changes. Students are given a good amount of time to complete a prompt, they post it, it gets graded. Students comment of another students prompt they get credit, it's so much easier then having an in class quiz and does not require a lot of time. It's just up to the students whether they are responsible enough to complete the assignment and turn it in on time.

Discussion Prompt # 13

Jose Hernandez
Ms. Maria Butler
English 101-Polished paper #4 First Draft
November 20, 2011
Some issues that need to be solved
The scheduling process at this school since the start has been taxing. Twice now registration has been out of my control because many students get some type of priority over me for whatever reason they may have. Twice now my schedule is not to my specifications.  A problem I will now identify is the class registration and availabilities. Everyone who isn’t a priority is affected by this. The freshmen especially have to suffer and they are the ones who are new to it. Students will go on in infinity to bad scheduling if the issue is not resolved. I propose that more classes are created at more flexible times, this can be achieved by hiring more professors to accommodate slots or times that all students can benefit from .

Discussion Prompt # 12

1.) a.) They could propose that the two new staff be transferred to another school or fired because of inexperience with teaching or other reasons.
b.)Another proposal they could propose is compiling more students from another professor and merge classes with two professors to speed up learning.
2.) They work against the students learning and time that they are going to graduate. This means they need to get more finance into education , time off work to learn and delay how soon they will be able to get a job in the career they want with their diploma.
3.) a.)They could try and get the class at another university if both universities can cooperate for the good of education.
b.) Another proposal they could get is have some exemption to class cancellation due to low student count if the class has students who require the class to graduate.
4.) a.)Low student count , new adjucents being hired, the file cabinet being taken away.
b.) Spending the money on nine students wouldn't be cost efficient, The file cabinet was needed by another professor that had more students,  the new staff needed experience so liquidation of a current professors class with experience was needed.
5.) a.)Helped me think on broad ideas with problems and how to show that it is a problem with good examples.
b.) Helped me think about solutions because of the needs and dedication of students who want things to get done but the system of academia wont let them for some poorly constructed reason.

Discussion Prompt # 11

Scenario 1 Topic 2

Hating the addictive effects of cigarettes is a personal issue or moral that the person must resolve outside of the workplace. The workplace is where you preform the job you were assigned whether you like it or not. Being satisfied with your job that pays well means that it can provide you with the means to survive in a crippled economy. You are satisfied with the job because it provides you with income therefore you are a success in your career field because it make you money. You are not satisfied with the morals of smoking and that is not affiliated with success in the workplace in my point of view. This changes nothing . The workplace is a place of economical gain for the company employee and employer not a place of personal belief

Monday Nov. 7 Online Class Assignment

1.      1.) After reviewing the information about the drafting introduction on page 3, review your own intro and decide what you can do to:
a.       more clearly show what is at stake for your issue
ans: what is at stake is your future, career success is your life line.
b.      more thoroughly contextualize your issue with background information (this is helpful for both intro and conclusion)
ans: Job satisfaction has a direct link to career success. Satisfaction in the work place is more then personal preferences. Satisfaction is also how well the job serves your personal needs and life style.
c.       write a few sentences for a. and b. that you will insert into your next draft.
ans: Satisfaction is the basis on what a job needs to offer the employee. Satisfaction at work is needed to maintain the job and to maintain your life.

2.       2.)Review your topic sentences of your body paragraphs:
a.       Whether you are doing org. plan 1 or 2, your topic sentences should contain the criteria that you are discussing in the paragraph.  (Review bottom of page 4 and all of page 5).
ans: I reviewed them over.
b.      If you have any main topic sentences (do at least two here) that don’t contain the criteria of your definition that you are about to discuss in your paragraph, paste the old sentence, then write the revision of it that you will change in your next draft, like this:
                                                               i.      Satisfaction is just another word for happiness
ii.   Satisfaction is the essence of job stability and success witch contribute to happiness. criteria include amount of jobs available at anytime in the market , rate of hire and fire , and economic ties to the market to keep it stable as a career or job.

3.     3.)  Now, go through your body paragraphs and make sure that in the evidence sections of them, you are “developing” the criterion you are discussing, which means: explaining/defining each criterion for your definitionBy the end of your paper, we should be able to tell a) your definitions, b) the criteria for those definitions, and c) the definitions of those criteria. (Look at page 5, description of BP1).
a.       Find your shortest body paragraph.  This is a quick way to determine which one needs more development.
b.      Paste it in.
c.       Then paste in a revision of it that contains more details and explanations of the criterion under discussion.
ans1:Respect is the basic foundation in any and or all relationships. Respect is the acknowledgment of social, political or authority based power another individual. Recognizing a person and ensuring that the person is kept in good status or better is how respect is built. In the job field success by respect is obtained by first giving respect to your co-workers and employers alike. Treating others with respect will increase your chance of receiving the same or better respect by that person. Some other alternatives may include completing favors or giving gifts and other similar tasks. Respect gained from your co-workers can satisfy the need or want to fit in the work place as a recognized and respected member. Career success based on respect is what workers in the work place look for to feel needed and important no matter the position they are hired as, this feeling of respect is what keeps them emotionally happy and obligated to display this happiness or satisfaction with the rest of the work force. This can also improve productivity of the individual now that he or she probably takes the job much more seriously because they may enjoy it due to the respect they get or being employed.
ans2: Respect is the basic foundation in any and or all relationships. Respect is the acknowledgment of social, political or authority based power another individual. Social recognition is the acknowledgment that a person exists in a social tree of hierarchical advancement from the basis.Political respect is the acknowledgement of the ideas of other people, this also means that you must give recognition to that idea as its own creation and not criticize only to an extent as to saying you do not agree. Authority base power respect is the recognition that there is a higher ranked individual within your group or organization or company and that you abide by the rules and regulations of that individual or individuals .Recognizing a person and ensuring that the person is kept in good status or better is how respect is built. By keeping in good status you must respect the ideas of that individual and only express your own ideas with digression , it is unwise to insult or offend any one in the workplace due to rules and regulations that state you may be removed from the workplace and fined or jailed for a period of time for insulting or offending any one in the workplace. In the job field success by respect is obtained by first giving respect to your co-workers and employers alike. The respect given may then be given in return at the same or greater value then what was given.

4.    4.)   Look over one of your rebuttal areas.  If you have one (and you should; “considering the opposition” or “other viewpoints” is on the rubric) look for a way to revise it to be more developed, if you don’t have one, make one now to add into your next draft.  Review page 6 and the ways that you 1) acknowledge opposition to your argument, 2) but prove how the opposition is not strong enough to invalidate your argument.
a.       Paste in the old and new rebuttal sections
b.      Or say that you hadn’t gotten around to that yet in your first draft and make one up now to include in your next draft.
ans: I will acknowledge that perhaps career success does not totally revolve around satisfaction but it must be told that it is a important factor that must be kept near the top of the list of job goals. All who oppose must see that job satisfaction does require the satisfaction of a good income, safe environment and respect from workers and bosses alike. What else is more important then job satisfaction? Stability? That is included in satisfaction,  does the job satisfy your needs of reinsurance, that the career you have is ensured to survive the toughtest economical hardships. Your career depends on the many factors that must be satisfactory.

Disscussion prompt #10

Yes job satisfaction is important to your career success. Job satisfaction is what keeps an employee from quiting thier job. Satisfaction means more then somebodies personal wants to make the job eaiser. Satisfaction also means the standard of the jobs saftey was met. The job's pay is satisfactory to where you can live on it without too much finacial aid if any. Career success depends on the satisfaction the employer can provide to the employee and how that employee reacts and adapts to quell the needs not wants that he or she wants in the work place.

Discussion Prompt # 9

1.) Maybe in Saudi Arabia where the laws of men and women are drastically different should there be soft skills needed to survive on a day to day basis. In America men and women all share the same laws, this is why soft skills are not entirely needed in America. I believe the only place to find different rules on men and women is in the military. The main soft skill I believe you should need in America is learning how to create a law suit and file charges against somebody being sexist to you.

2.) I disagree, on a university or college level there should not be a issue with race or gender. We students pay for one thing on this campus and that is to learn and graduate. It seems like she is trying to say that kids in school want to come to ridicule others. I personally have only experienced racial or gender issues in grade school. Now that I am in college I have yet to see these issues. I of course am speaking contemporary when I say I have yet to experience these issues. We are all just people who want an education.

Discussion Questions # 8

1.)
A: Yes, the Spanish we use in my house is a mix between Peruvian and Mexican dialects, when I took Spanish two they wanted me to use the term Vosrotos, at home we did not even use this term, we used Nosrotos.

B:To be honest learning the proper way of Spanish in school was just adding to my general knowledge of Spanish. It didn't change a thing, I still rarely use the new school terms. Having to master the "language" in my job field should not be a problem with me.

C:No, it wont matter what language I use, so long as my employer is satisfied with the credibility of the language the job demands. I respect all languages and all their forms (dialects).

2.)
A:Yes. No success can never be obtained without sacrifice because when something is obtained or gained something such as time or money , something, is used to gain what ever you were trying to obtain.

B:Yes you can if you and the others involved tried hard enough. A true intimate relationship with family or love(d) ones should not be broken because of a career or discipline with the exception to a field that has you go away forever or something extreme like that.

C: I believe it was not worth it. Losing family should be the last thing you ever do. It shouldn't even be an option to lose family it's just so important. True relationships are with those who are related to the every blood in your veins.

Discussion Questions # 6

1.)  I believe allusion is quiet alienating. Although useful the extensive use of allusion in the essay pointed attentions toward other texts rather her own. The writer seems to underestimate with her writing abilities and therefore fills space with text from other more successful writings. This convinced me that the write wasn't worth the reading. I kept on reading in hopes that the constant flashes to other text would stop, however I was wrong to exponential lengths.

2.) She says that "self-respect is a discipline, a habit of mind that can never be faked but can be developed, trained, coaxed fourth"(Joan Didion). I believe that the majority of the populous would agree with this. Self-respect is a born factor that cannot be man-made later in life but it can be molded into something unique and powerful. She also says that " one runs away to find oneself, and finds no one at home"(Joan Didion). This in my opinion means without self respect you will be caught in a loophole of identity loss and that you must realize you are born with self respect from the start you always had it.

3.) In my opinion it is the born power of these "disciplines" that she said before is what connects us to writing ability from self-respect. Everybody is born with the ability to learn to write as well as to respect ones self, its a matter if your willing to mold these skills into something worth significant value. A habit of mind or in my own words the integrated natural programming of the mind functioning as the basic codes , ethics , or skills to day to day living. These skills such as self-respect are the basic fundamentals on how a person recognizes him or her self in society. The ability to communicate for example already places this person in society as one who interacts with it as a unique sentient being that is able to be symbiotic with society.

Discussion Questions # 3

1)  I generally read over an assignment a total of two times maximum, as bad as it sounds I usually understand what I have to do after two reading sessions. I think that reading the assignment paper more then two times is definitely worthwhile. Reading the paper after your first draft can be helpful because sometimes students might go into the work before clearly reading the assignment paper and do it completely wrong because of format or some other reason, this is definitely a benefit to read after your first draft so your second draft can be correct and close to an A.

2) You can apply Evidence consideration to your own personal argument to strengthen your point. Evidence is the bread and butter to any proven point and its necessary. Considering evidence will ensure your point is held above the audience and critics.

3)  To me the most useful section of the analysis section was the instruction to analyze the separate parts of a paper and seeing how they are related to each other. This skill is very useful to help sort out a paper you don't quite understand. I think we should go over the part where it says to engage in open inquiry even when the answer of the argument is known.

4) Similarities include evidence in the writers work and being fair and open minded rather then closed and stubborn to suggestions or overpowering argument. Also clear facts that the writer is cool headed and will not attack the audience or critics reading the material the writer has presented.

Discussion Questions # 2

1.) Values of homemade, to be honest there is nothing like homemade in my opinion. If i was to choose between a store bought sandwich and one made at home, I would choose the homemade sandwich, reason is I made it the way I want it and I know whats in it. Homemade is something you trust and you know is made with the best of that makers abilities. However store bought is ready made and can often times be of higher quality since its been lab tested and factory made. Although homemade is labor price free store bought does come in higher quantities ready for purchase. Prices , homemade to the maker and often times receiver place a priceless price on a homemade good, usually because its not made anywhere but by that person, society however labels homemade almost worthless, they are used too store bought advertised ready mades that they believe are on sale or what ever percent off. Some other well known individual that was self taught is Bill Gates. Bill was a college dropout who didn't really do anything in law school except learn about the computer by himself. Bill learned how to work with computers and later used his knowledge to co-found Microsoft.

2.) Learning for some people is a freedom. Freedom from being oppressed by those who know more. Knowing more then others will give you a horrid advantage over those who are less educated. Some of the first financial empires were built due to the fact that people of that time were too ignorant to know any better. Take like the rail road companies, back in the day they ran the financials of this nation like it was theirs. Now that we are more educated we are not as gullible as before. The unions formed because of company policy being too demanding is an example. They learned they had power and exercised it.

3.) If I was to be locked in a cell i would choose to learn math and law. These two skills are to me the most important subjects you can have when you get out of jail. Math is important because you will need to calculate prices and any income you might be receiving. Knowing these things can make getting back on your feet after jail so much easier. Law is another important subject because knowing if I was wrongly accused can land me a very nice paycheck from who ever got me sent to jail in the first place. This will also help prevent me from going back to jail. My goals after jail would be to make sure I would never go back, one way is by securing a financial future for myself and family, and knowing the law and avoiding any illegal activity to get sent back.

Discussion Questions # 1

     1. I believe that the benefits you would have writing with your own home world views in mind would be very crucial. Writing with your own home views in mind give the readers back home a connection to the ideas you are trying to write about. It is also in my opinion that this creates the idea in the minds of those not from your home that you are very humble and perhaps that you are respected by your people. Having your views with the views of the academic standard can create an infusion of critical thinking both from home and study.

     2. I don't see why you have to let go of your home world views just because you graduated from an academic institution. Although she is right that academic and home views cant coexist due to the fact that home opinions dont really have a place in an academic world based on facts or research and data, critical thinking and process, but, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to give up on the connections that bind you to your home. I say just simply keep the two worlds apart. Its the author , student, who ever is writing to decide to put academic or home views into his or her work. There shouldn't really be this clash of powers in the literate world in my opinion.
